Brian has worked with us throughout the re-design of our back and front yard, including putting in a pool and landscape design. The project required landscape grading and new walls/fences and new plants/design. He helped us better integrate our house and its exits with the outside areas. He has a thoughtful, professional approach and is great at providing ideas with the pros and cons without being pushy and helping to keep costs down. He is patient and a good listener. His calm approach was much appreciated as we talked through ideas and potential issues. We did not work with a contractor and we had many sub-contractors working on the pool and he helped us catch several issues before it was too late, which was really not even in his job description. I am working on a landscape project to support the artificial turf and putting green that I recently had installed in my back and side yards. I was referred to Brian by a friend, and was looking for help with plant selection in the surrounding areas. I am glad I selected Brian after speaking with other designers and the turf installer, since Brian actually provided other design suggestions that will enhance the finished project. Brian helped me keep the overall project costs in line with my budget by suggesting the installation of PT planters rather than large boulders across a long expanse of steep embankment adjacent to the dry creek bed. He also suggested increasing the dry scape work to include a seating area near the putting green for my guests. However, the main extent of his efforts was to provide plant selections for the various sun exposure areas that exist throughout the project areas while considering my request to primarily use plants that are native to California and the Marin area, and require minimal irrigation when mature so not to impact the health of many existing large oaks that exist in the project area and adjacent property. He was always clear in his communication and suggestions while providing alternate selections from which I could choose. We reached out to Brian initially for a consult on a re-design of our backyard. He was patient upon the first meeting as my dogs were trying to introduce themselves as well. Being that the reason for the design was to have a dog friendly space, it was good for him to observe the space they need and what I need to keep them from bringing dirt from coming into the house. Brian created a path and high screening foliage which created a much more zen-like area, rather than the separate space I had for the dogs previously. Brian also planned a raised deck area so my family could continue to enjoy outdoor barbecues and fresh air conversations. We highly recommend Brian! We bought a new house with NO backyard. Just dirt and an odd shape that defied our ability to plan what to do with it. We sought Brian's help and are very glad we did. Brian drew a detailed plan for hardscape, lighting, irrigation, and plantings that fit our yard beautifully. He specified a mix of hardscape materials--pavers and decomposed granite that broke up the hardscape, defined the seating areas, and added a lot of interest. He added lighting along the pathways and a nice variety of drought-tolerant plants. It is all finished and looks terrific. Brian does great design work at a very reasonable price. TB 2019

We hired Brian to design the front area of our house including; landscape, driveway, retaining wall and awning. We were super pleased with his ideas and finished design. We have a sloping front and he designed for that. He knows plants and was able to answer all questions and give suggestions for what best fit what we wanted. We hired BK Landscape Design to create an overall landscape and low retaining wall plan which we could implement in phases. Brian was great to work with – listening carefully and asking questions to flush out preferences and styles. His initial draft had a full layout with photos of the plants selected which allowed for more discussion and refinement. We were extremely pleased with the job Brian did for us.We basically had our old and problematic backyard swimming pool demoed and we were faced with what to do with this large space. Brian presented us with a design and planting plan and named specific plants that we agreed mutually on to be planted. Also included was a plan for a pergola which ties in well. Under the pergola and on a concrete pad, he designed a bar. All of the swimming pool coping stones were used as landscape steps and old redwood planks from our old deck were re purposed for a landing outside our master bedroom which leads into the back garden. Our existing front yard was filled with juniper, which the fire department wanted out because of the flammability aspect. We wanted perennials and plants that deer didn't like. We wanted a drip system and landscape lighting in both spaces.It was also time to have our two story staircase and decks replaced. He designed all of that and used a hardwood for the material. Lights were recessed into the side walls and benches were built into the main deck, which is perfect for entertaining. The job went well and his pricing was fair based on the scoop of the job.
